A black and white picture taken in the Anchorage museum of people lounging in midcentury modern chairs below a sign proclaiming in large letters, "This is Dena'ina Elnena land" - the name of the Athabaskan people who first lived here.

Dena’ina Elnena

The Dena’ina Ełnena are the Athabaskan peoples who lived on the land in Southcentral Alaska prior to colonization. They have a rich culture, much of it revolving around the land in Alaska. It’s hard to find much online about them, but here is a start: https://www.anchorage.net/plan-your-trip/about-anchorage/the-denaina-people/

This picture was taken in the Anchorage Museum at Rasmussen Center using a 1/2 frame Olympus Pen F camera from the early ’60s loaded with HP5 and home developed.
